If you are a member of the community I live in you most likely have a deployed spouse or a friend who has a deployed spouse.  For many of us Thanksgiving is the first holiday of this deployment so chances are some kids will really be missing their Mom or Dad tomorrow.  Tomorrow we will be focusing on the positives and the fact that we have so much to be grateful for this year!

I am thankful for the love of three beautiful girls who find a way to make the days pass more quickly and keep me grounded. I am thankful for a husband who inspires and motivates me and whose presence is missed daily and love makes this family complete.

I am thankful for the beautiful trails outside my house and the quiet beauty they provide me on my runs while I clear my head and focus for the day.
I am Thankful for the amazing sunrises that greet my family each day as we look out our kitchen window towards Afghanistan.
I am thankful for friends that motivate me to live a fit and healthy life; for friends who show up at any hour of the day because they happened to be taking a "walk near your house", for two friends texts that keep me laughing all day long and for old friends 6 hours behind who text in the middle of their night as my day is starting.
I am thankful for these boys the last two summers who continue to challenge my brain, my patience and my knowledge forcing me to grow on a daily basis. And for the amazing parents this summer who did everything in their power to make our trip awesome!
I am thankful for the amazing group of women on my 1FC Schlicht soccer team who allowed me to find passion for a sport I never thought I would enjoy again.
I am thankful for all the kind, loving friends my children have made on this Army journey and the friends they will make in the future all over this amazing world.
I am thankful for the sights and sounds my family experiences daily in Germany.
I am thankful for my parents and my sister and brother who always find a way no matter how far away we live from each other.
Finally I am thankful for the amazing and inspiring women that MOM FIT has allowed me to interact with over the last three years.  Each person has left a piece of them with our team and it is shared daily with so many other military spouses. Wherever you are this Thanksgiving thank you for sharing with us!

On Friday Mom Fit wrapped up our first ever 30 DAY AB Challenge and I had a blast! Tomorrow morning on our Facebook page we will set off on a 30 Day Squat and Lunge Challenge.  (Can you feel it already?)  Excited to welcome back our returners and anyone new that is jumping on the M.O.M. FIT train!

I think it is important for all of us to realize that these challenges are meant to supplement your daily fitness routine not BE YOUR FITNESS ROUTINE! Simply doing a 30 day AB challenge will not give you the abs of Lolo Jones although a girl can dream! (side pic) To become a well rounded, healthy and fit individual you must incorporate proper nutritional habits, maintain an awareness of your daily food intake and have a varied workout plan that at a minimum includes cardio and strength.

Squats are a functional exercise that play an important role in your everyday life.  How many times a day do you bend to pick up an item?  Concentrate on the form and fundamental aspects of the squats and lunges as we progress through our 30 days and you will see an improvement in your everyday balance and mobility.

THANKSGIVING is approaching and developing a plan prior to the
day of Thanks can help you be prepared to avoid indulging unnecessarily. Did you know that a traditional meal can set you back 3,000 calories in one sitting!!

First things first! When preparing your meal find ways to trim
calories, use skim milk instead of evaporated milk, offer a soup instead of
sweet potatoes covered in brown sugar and marshmallows,  The morning of Thanksgiving get out the door and get moving, take a hike, a walk, a jog, a run you name it get moving and enlist a partner several days in advance to exercise with you, strength in numbers!  
 This way you will have burned some calories before the festivities have even
begun, if you procrastinate it just won’t happen.  When you return eat breakfast, it is not
a good idea to skip meals as it will make you hungrier for the big sit down and likely to 
 over indulge. (Think of food shopping while you are hungry, never a
good idea).

When you sit down for the big meal select a smaller plate, avoid the creamy side dishes instead choose the steamed or roasted vegetables, choose white turkey meat over dark it has one third less calories and half of the fat.  Fill half your plate with vegetables, a quarter of it with turkey, half a cup of stuffing or mashed potatoes. Want pumpkin pie? Take a small slice and don’t add ice cream on top!  Take two bites and wait…still want to finish it? Often times you will find you are full. Finally don’t drink your calories away! Be aware of what you are drinking you can easily ingest several hundred calories before sitting down for your meal.

Take the time to prepare and above all be Thankful!
